Whether it is due to longer working hours, further to travel, or just our bodies not being able to cope, a major car accident claim risk is tiredness or fatigue. In a recent survey, it was reported that over 30% of people said that they had regularly felt tired or run-down.Everyone knows we they are tired; however, there is no official medical definition of it. If you were to go to the doctors, there are many symptoms that can indicate you are fatigued such as: dizziness, memory problems, headaches and muscle tension, but generally, constant tiredness is the obvious factor. This leads to a loss of concentration in day to day activities, but it could be a very dangerous symptom when driving a car.
The main question though is; Is tiredness a major car accident claimrisk? This seems like an obvious question, but as ever, reports must be done, and they have been. Transport officials agree that tiredness does kill, but it appears to be very difficult to find any precise figures about this. What they have found is that in 10% – 15% of car accident claims, tiredness and fatigue is a major factor. As if that wasn’t shocking enough, it also uncovered that 25% of drivers admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel at least, and 50% to driving while they thought they were going to fall asleep. In the majority of these cases when they lead to crash, it is deadly as the driver can do nothing to slow the car down, or try to avert the accident.
